When Israel Aerospace Industries and Fire Free Forests unveiled the 767 Fire-Fighter, the aviation, defence and fire-service press picked it up across four continents.

The story in brief

The partnership
In July 2025, Fire Free Forests and Israel Aerospace Industries signed a strategic agreement to build a new class of firefighting aircraft. IAI leads the engineering and the conversion. Fire Free Forests leads the financing, the deployment and the commercial model.
The aircraft
The 767 Fire-Fighter is a Boeing 767 freighter converted into a very large air tanker. It carries close to 40 tons of retardant and lays it down with precision, several times the load of the turboprop tankers flying today.
The system
Real-time sensors read the fire, the wind and the ground, then feed a central command that coordinates the aircraft with the teams below. The plane is one node in a wider firefighting network, not a lone machine.
The model
Governments and public agencies subscribe to the capacity instead of buying and maintaining a fleet. Out of fire season, the aircraft returns to cargo work. Deployment hubs are planned across North America, Southern Europe and Australia.
